Our Address: 489 WHANREGARWEN RD. ALEXANDRA VICTORIA
AUSTRALIA.
Our land - Situated on 522 beautiful acres of Goulburn
River flats with a mix of hill country, our very productive land each year
produces loads of wonderful grass hay and silage which gives us great carrying
capacity, and with plenty of cool clear water from Crystal Creek running
through our property, our cows and calves are happy and contented, and
thrive accordingly. Seeing is believing - (have a look at
"Farm Views" on our web site), also you're invited to visit us at any time of
the year, but please give us a day or two notice and try to avoid the hay making
season.
Gelbvieh and Angus - Our Gelbvieh Stud had its' beginnings
on 3,500 acres of dry country at Swan Hill on the New South Wales side in
1998 and moved to this lovely part of the world in 2001. We run a herd of
commercial cattle in conjunction with the Gelbvieh stud and have lately
concentrated on crossing Red Angus (British) with the Gelbvieh (European) breeds
to gain that hybrid vigour or "euro cross" which is now highly sought after by
lot feeders. The Gelbvieh/Red Angus cross or "Balancer" seems to us to be an
ideal combination, producing a well muscled fast maturing animal, with a quiet
nature, which at weaning is ideal for the feed lotter. The same applies to Black
Angus, and we have a number of Black Angus/Gelbvieh cross cattle. Whether
black or red, they are all Angus, and colour is a matter of personal
preference.
Gelbvieh and Hereford - We have also crossed the Gelbvieh
with Hereford cows, and this cross was a great success, and we still have some
of those original cows today, still producing a calf each year. This was our
first venture with the Gelbvieh and introduced into our Hereford herd
because of eye cancer problems arising from the dry and dusty conditions, and
the small bush flies. Once we introduced the brown eye pigment of the Gelbvieh
into the herd - no more cancerous eye problems and the milk production also
improved which meant that our weaners were bigger and went ahead faster after
they were taken from their mothers!
Gelbvieh and Shorthorn. An excellent cross with cows
producing great milk and marbling but slightly slower in maturing, and as a
result we have decided to direct our energies more towards the Gelbvieh and
Angus breeds.
